Oh my goodness!  My momma was born in southern Alabama and my daddy was from northern Florida.  I was raised on southern food from fried catfish to hushpuppies to collard and turnip greens.  Uncle Larry's does them as well as any I've ever had. T yrone and Uncle Larry were both there today.  My wife had the catfish, fried green tomatoes, coleslaw, cucumber salad and hushpuppies.   I had whitefish, turnip greens, fried okra and hushpuppies.  They have a kinda pink dipping sauce that is a little spicy but VERY good.  There is some malt vinegar that was great on the greens!  Everything was 5 out of 5!

We loved this fish fry!  My boyfriend said it was one of his favorite meals during our week long roadtrip down south, crossing Tennessee, Alabama and North Carolina.

I got the fried catfish with cajun seasoning, it was perfectly cooked, crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside.  The turnip greens were some of the best I ever had, they cook it down until tender.

The hush puppies, fried okra and fried green tomatoes were also yummy and not greasy.

Today i had a strong craving for Uncle Larry's!!! The food was fresh, per usual.  And not just the fish.  The fries and okra were piping hot too!! Today i got the small whiting plate with the two sides.  One piece Cajun of course! My son literally asked for me to order him another catfish bite plate to go!  And I couldn't leave the place w/o getting a slice of strawverry.

If you're ever in Chattanooga and want some hot fried fish or maybe a pork chop sandwich, you won't want to miss out on this spot!!

We read about Uncle Larry's online while back home in Oklahoma.  #2 restaurant in Chattanooga on Trip Advisor, down-home cookin'.  So we decided to try it.


WOW!! WOW!!
Perfectly fried fish, okra, onion rings, and green tomatoes.  Everything was hot, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and NOT greasy. Wonderful flavor!  This is some of the best fried fish we've had in many years.  Kudos to Uncle Larry and his family!  I am totally stuffed.

Now, I’m picky about my fried catfish, and being from New Orleans, I am skeptical of anything advertised as “Cajun seasoned” outside of Louisiana.  Y’ALL - SERIOUSLY - this is the real deal. The catfish is fried to perfection - crispy outside, melt-in-your-mouth inside, not too bready, just right.  The Cajun spice (a 50 cent upcharge, but well worth it) is fantastic - good kick but not too much.  And the turnip greens are like my granny’s; I could have eaten a bowl of them.  I had the fried okra as my other side, and that was great as well.   Ask for the “Smack Me” sauce to go with it.

Love this place.  One of the few that has several types of fish that can be fried.  I had the fried tilapia basket.  It was 5 large filets fried with hush puppies.  The pups were small but tasted great.

What I was more amazed with was the excellent service.   Around 4 different people working and all were nice and kept checking on me and keeping tea filled.  Truly the nicest people who love their work.  I would come more often if they had later hours but, I am rarely in the area during the day.
